The new oral GLP-1 in Dubai pharmacies: what to actually expect
An oral GLP-1 has landed on UAE pharmacy shelves. Here is how to read the gap between regulatory approval and clinical evidence, in plain language.

The arrival of an oral GLP-1 in UAE pharmacies is genuine progress for patients who cannot or will not inject. It is also a useful case study in how to read the difference between something being approved and something being thoroughly understood.
Approval is a floor, not a ceiling
Regulatory approval in the UAE means a medication has cleared the safety bar for marketing. It does not mean every long term question has been answered, and it does not mean a new oral form will perform identically to the injectable.
What we ask before prescribing anything new
- How long has the molecule existed in patients, not in trials?
- Are head to head comparisons against placebo, or against the best existing therapy?
- Have side effect rates been confirmed in real world post marketing data?
Until those answers exist for the new oral form, we treat it as a useful option for a narrow group of patients, not a default replacement for a therapy with five years of injection data behind it.
